Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick Won’t Back Down From Dynasty Comment
When Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick boldly stated that his team has a chance to develop into a dynasty in the future, he evoked memories of another recent bold prediction by an Eagles quarterback.
That would be the idiotic Dream Team comment by backup quarterback Vince Young at the start of last year’s training camp. Young’s words stuck with the Eagles all season. In fact, they’ll probably be what most fans, especially casual fans, remember the 2011 Eagles for.
Young never retracted his comment, but Vick had an opportunity to on the first day of training camp, when reports started right in with his dynasty prediction.
But he didn’t. In fact, he stuck right with his original comment. Here’s what he said.
“That’s just me speaking in confidence, and if you ask my teammates, they’d tell you the same thing and feel the same way,” Vick said. “As a quarterback, that’s just how you feel. I feel you’ve got to speak it into existence. You’ve got to aim and shoot for the stars, and if you miss, you’ll be amongst them.”
All I’ve got to say is that Michael Vick better have a good season. He better have a great season. He better get the Eagles deep into the playoffs because he’s put so much pressure on himself and his team that it’s really going to cause a lot of negative publicity, again, if Vick and the Eagles fail to deliver.
I’m really not a fan of athletes and their predictions. Play, but don’t talk.
