The Philadelphia Eagles have officially trimmed their roster down to the required 75 players by making four moves on Monday. None of the moves were surprising.
The team parted ways with wide receiver Jamel Hamler, who actually had a pretty good camp and even scored a touchdown on a nice move in the first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But Hamler wasn’t going to make the team because of the impressive depth the team has at receiver.
DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Jason Avant are locks to make the team. You can safely put Riley Cooper and Damaris Johnson on the 53-man roster too. Rookie Marvin McNutt is a practice squad candidate. So is Chad Hall. St. Louis Rams castoff Mardy Gilyard also has a chance to make the practice squad.
Offensive lineman Mike Gibson was placed on the injured reserve list with a minor hip flexor injury. Gibson, a sixth round draft pick of the Eagles in 2008, has spent the previous four seasons with the Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks, where he has played in 17 games, including eight starts.
The third move came when the team moved defensive tackle Mike Patterson to the nonfootball illness list. He is continuing to recover from offseason brain surgery following a seizure at training camp more than a year ago. He is not expected to play football this season but the Eagles are not giving up hope. With the powerful defensive line the Eagles have, it actually may not matter too much if Patterson misses the season.
The fourth move involved the team placing left tackle Jason Peters to the nonfootball injury list. Peters ruptured his Achilles tendon in March and is not expected to play this season, hence the signing of free agent Demetress Bell a few weeks later. But the Eagles are not giving up hope that Peters can play.
Both Patterson and Peters are eligible to practice with the team between weeks 6 and 9. Then they must be activated to the 53-man roster or placed on injured reserve, ending their season.

In other Eagles news, the Eagles have released cornerback Cliff Harris. They’ve also named veteran Akeem Jordan as the starting weakside linebacker, and veteran King Dunlap has beaten out Demetress Bell for the starting job at left tackle.
And if you want a good laugh, read about quarterback Michael Vick stating that he does not think he is injury prone.
