Philadelphia Flyers Re-Sign Jakub Voracek To Four-Year Deal
After nearing an agreement earlier in the week, the Philadelphia Flyers made it official on Thursday, announcing a new deal for winger Jakub Voracek.
The deal is for four years and $17 million total, good for $4.25 million a year. He saw a raise from the $3.25 mil he made last season, but this was about the increase that most had expected. Voracek totaled 49 points for the Flyers last year, including 18 goals. He tallied 11 points on the power play, all of which were assists.
There’s little doubt that Voracek will see an increased role this season in Philly. He should see a significant bump in ice time, as he’ll probably at least start the season skating minutes with the top line.
I completely expect a career year for Jakub Voracek. His playmaking skills next to Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell should prove beneficial for all three of them. Something in the neighborhood of 70 points for the Flyers forward isn’t just possible, it’s probably likely next to those two.
Though $4.25 million might seem like a bit of an overpayment, the Flyers are paying him for what he’ll do over the next four years in Philadelphia. If he produces as expected, that could potentially be one of the better top lines in hockey for the next four years.
It shouldn’t take long for the Flyers to see a return to see a positive return on this investment. This is a solid deal for Philly and it should be a pleasure to watch Jakub Voracek continue to round out his game for at least the next four years in the City of Brotherly Love.
