Before the 2011 season, Domonic Brown was expected to be the starter in right field, replacing Jayson Werth. Heading into the 2012 season, Philadelphia Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. said the plan for the Phillies is for the team to keep Brown in Triple-A for the majority of next season.
Brown has been a disappointment so far compared to the expectations of being the fourth-highest rated prospect in the game prior to the 2010 season, but he still has loads of potential and Amaro said the team wants him to have a full year in Triple-A. So far, Brown has fewer than 300 plate appearances at the Triple-A level in his career, and his struggles could (hopefully) simply be attributed to lack of playing time.
This will also take the pressure off of Brown to move right into the starting spot in left field, replacing Raul Ibanez (who just completed a three-year deal with the team and likely won’t be back).
