Sidney Crosby Reaches Milestone in Pittsburghs Win Over Buffalo Sabres
Last night the Pittsburgh Penguins finally earned a win over the Buffalo Sabres after two disheartening back-to-back losses to the struggling New York Islanders this past week.
The win not only signifies a momentum shift for Pittsburgh, but it also includes a milestone for captain Sidney Crosby who tallied four points during the contest including a goal and three assists. One of his three assists, a pin-point accurate pass setting up James Neal for a goal in the second period, helped Crosby become the league’s seventh-youngest player to record 600 points.
Here’s a little perspective on just how amazing this accomplishment and what a great player Crosby really is according to a Wall Street Journal article,
At 24 years, 236 days, Crosby is the youngest player to hit the mark since Pierre Turgeon did it with the New York Islanders in 1994.
With 220 goals and 380 assists in 430 games, Crosby also reached 600 points in the seventh-fewest games.
With the win over Buffalo and gaining back their momentum, the Penguins can take that into tomorrow afternoon’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers at the CONSOL Energy Center and use it as an advantage. Currently Pittsburgh is four points ahead of Philadelphia going into tomorrow’s game.
AHL Defensemen Re-Assigned
Earlier this morning, the Penguins announced that they re-assigned defensemen Simon Despres, who was called up along with Brian Strait this past Monday, back to the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Baby Pens. Since Matt Niskanen returned to the lineup last night against the Sabres, I would assume that means that defensemen Kris Letang is close to returning, possibly for Sunday afternoon’s game against the Flyers. It would be good timing since the Penguins have been struggling without their elite defenseman.
