2008
- the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied to erase a 3-0 lead against the New York Rangers and won on Evgeni Malkin‘s powerplay goal with 1:41 remaining to win the opening game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals
Pittsburgh swept (4-0) the Ottawa Senators in Round 1 prior to meeting the Rangers for this second round. The Penguins were able to defeat the Rangers eliminating them in five games with the last going into overtime. The game-winning goal was scored by Marian Hossa (his fourth of the series) and the Penguins moved on to the Conference Finals playing against the Philadelphia Flyers. They ultimately got all the way to the Stanley Cup Final against the Detroit Red Wings where they lost in six games. They would meet the Red Wings again in the Stanley Cup Final the following season and change the outcome this time around to become the 2009 Stanley Cup Champions.
1999
- Martin Straka scored his first playoff hat trick, in a game against the New Jersey Devils
1991
- the Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals, 4-1, to clinch their first Patrick Division playoff championship
1989
- Mario Lemieux tied two NHL playoff records with five goals and eight points in one playoff game as the Penguins beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 10-7 (ten goals was/is a franchise high in the playoffs)
1958
- construction of the Civic Arena began
