Pittsburgh Pirates Send Out Top Squad for Spring Training Game Five
The Pittsburgh Pirates meet the Toronto Blue Jays today in the fifth game of Spring Training 2012. Both teams are 2-2 thus far.
The Pirates have 46 hits in four games so far which is encouraging, though the meaninglessness of Spring Training games is no secret.
Today, the Pirates will trot out a lineup that looks a lot like what the team should deploy come Opening Day. Take a look:
1. Alex Presley, LF
2. Jose Tabata, RF
3. Andrew McCutchen, CF
4. Garrett Jones, 1B
5. Pedro Alvarez, 3B
6. Clint Barmes, SS
7. Josh Harrison, 2B
8. Michael McKenry, C
9. Jeff Karstens, SP
Second baseman Neil Walker was slated to start today but was scratched this morning with some lower back tightness. Walker will sit out a few days as a precaution and the injury seems like nothing to worry about.
Harrison, McKenry and Karstens are the only players starting today who likely won’t be in the team’s Opening Day lineup. Hopefully we see some more encouraging stuff today out of the team’s hitters.
The Pirates will move away from using a designated hitter beginning today.
Karstens is scheduled to throw three innings. After that, we’ll see Brad Lincoln, Evan Meek, Jason Grilli, and Jeff Locke.
Game time is 1:05 PM.
