Pirates Waste Another Premium Pitcher Outing, Lose First Part of Double Header
James McDonald pitched six innings of no-hit ball against the Colorado Rockies and finished his day with one hit, three walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings, but the Pittsburgh Pirates offense couldn’t get much of anything going in his support.
A solo home run from Pedro Alvarez kept J-Mac from being tagged with the loss, but the Bucs couldn’t push anymore runs across and took the loss in the first part of today’s double header 2-1.
Andrew McCutchen had the team’s only other extra base hit with a double. Every Pirates starer – including McDonald – recorded exactly one hit.
Chris Resop gave up a run in 1/3 IP and took the loss.
The 2-1 final score means the Pirates broke a National League record with 17 consecutive games in which neither team scores more than five runs.
Game two of the double header starts at 3:55 PM.
Charlie Morton will take the mound for Pittsburgh, facing Colorado’s Jhoulys Chacin.
