Jaron Martin is leading his West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade team this season. His inspired play of late will likely get him some national recruiting interest. The Eagles are 14-4 this season thanks mostly to Martin’s efforts. Martin is a senior 5-foot-9, 164 pound point guard with great scoring touch, especially from three point land, and a deadly free throw shooter.
Chaminade head coach Todd Wolfson has even handed play calling duties to his senior captain.
“He’s really taken control of our team,” Wolfson said. “He’s calling the plays for us which is a big step for us. He understands what it takes to win and has put the team on his back. The kid is putting up unbelievable numbers and is doing a great job. He’s really efficient in what we’re trying to do and does a great job of getting his teammates touches. He’s spreading the ball around and he’s scoring the ball.”
This year, Martin is leading the team in scoring with 21.5 points per game and adding in 6.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds. He has also been deadly efficient shooting 55% from three, 60% from the field, and 92% from the free throw line.
“He’s not your prototypical point guard but he’s a scoring guard,” Wolfson said. “He’s had some big games for us and can score from everywhere. He can really fill it up. He needs to work on his defense a little bit but he’s a lot better than he was last year.”
He does not currently have a scholarship offer, but Tulane, St. Bonaventure, Western Michigan and U.C. Riverside have all shown interest.
