Everyone knew this would happen at some point.
Everyone knew Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly would leave for the NFL eventually.
And everyone knew there would be a major recruiting backlash when it happened.
Well, let the games begin: Kelly is the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, and subsequently, Oregon is already on the verge of losing two of their most talented prospects- twins Tyrell and Tyree Robinson.
The brothers had committed to Kelly last September, choosing the Ducks over 17 other scholarship offers. They were dead set on Oregon as of yesterday, when assistant coach John Neal stopped by their high school to check in on them. They were shocked to find out their future coach had bolted for the big lights of ‘The League’.
Now that the offensive mastermind Kelly is gone, the twins are re-opening their recruitment, with a soft verbal commitment to Oregon.
Considering they’ve re-opened their recruitment, the full court press from other teams will commence. When asked which other schools were at the top of their lists, they indicated that the Southern Cal Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish came to mind.
It’s still way too early to predict if they will sign with another school by Signing Day, but it’s not looking very bright for the Ducks right now.
The Robinson twins are technically being recruited as athletes, but indications are that Tyree (6’4” 180) would be playing defensive back and Tyrell (6’4” 190) would be playing outside linebacker. They’re also very highly recruited basketball players starring for Lincoln High School in San Diego.
