I will be the first to admit that I wasn’t in love with Legacy when they were first formed. I just didn’t think Dibiase and Rhodes had the in ring or mic skills at the time. The WWE treated the situation correctly and let them get their work in as a team. Slowly but surely their ring and mic skills got better week by week. Then once they split the tag team up I was much more impressed by Ted Dibiase’s character than I was with Cody Rhodes’ character. Then they screwed up Dibiase’s storyline and character but that is a blog for another time. Let’s get back to Cody Rhodes.
During Cody Rhodes’ run as his pretty boy character he slowly improved. His in ring ability became very solid he even developed a good finisher. He was starting to hold his own in his matches vs the big boys of the WWE. Then when he got “injured” in the match vs Rey Mysterio his whole career changed. The new character that got “disfigured” and was forced to hide his face suddenly became dark and fun to watch. Cody Rhodes’ suddenly became gold on the mic. His vocal change to an almost Phantom of the Opera character was brilliant. He is now one of the most interesting characters in the WWE. Any storyline or match he is in is always one of the best on that show.
I want to give big ups to the WWE. They brought Rhodes up the right way. They didn’t force him into the WWE title too early and then let him go down hill. They moved his career on correctly. First a tag champ until he had the skills to work on his own. Then they split the tag team and gave him a great individual character. Finally once that character took off they gave him the IC belt instead of throwing him right into the mix for the World Heavy Weight Championship. The best move was when they recently had Rhodes beat Orton but not then immediately throw him in a feud. Rhodes will now feud with Dibiase and then the next time they have him feud with Orton we will all have in the back of our mind that he defeated him last time they wrestled. I love that. That is how you build a wrestler and not “Jack Swagger” his career and give him the belt only to take it away and watch his career spiral down. Good job on Rhodes WWE.
I can’t wait to see Cody Rhodes win the WWE or World Heavy Weight Title in the near future. I think he is going to be a great superstar for a long long time.
