Chris Jericho’s Return Was A Brilliant Heel Turn

For those of you who missed it, Chris Jericho returned to the WWE Monday night. The series of promos that started almost two months ago were in fact for him. Jericho came out to much fanfare and that’s when the fun began.

Jericho pranced around the ring for nearly ten minutes without saying a word. He high-fived fans and acted like a typical face would upon his return. Eventually, the fans grew tired of Jericho not saying anything and began to boo towards the end of the promo. The booing was exactly the point and it was pulled off masterfully.

Jericho was never returning as a face. The fact that the fans cheered his return played right into his hand. Jericho antagonized the fans by not giving them what they want. If Y2J is going to feud with CM Punk, he needs to be a heel. Face vs. Face won’t work.

The fans wanted Jericho to cut a promo stating how happy he was to be back. He didn’t do that. He antagonized the fans without speaking. It was a brilliant move and don’t let anyone say it wasn’t. Let the return play out. The WWE isn’t going to reveal everything in one week.
