The WWE Should turn John Cena Heel
John Cena has been the face of the WWE for a number of years now. It is finally time to turn their super hero good guy, in to a bad guy/heel like character. His character has been stale for years. He always does the same wrestling moves; everyone in the arena already knows what Cena will do before they even enter the arena. Most of the WWE’s audience over the age of 10 boos him out of every arena he performs in.
John Cena comes out and cuts promos saying that the fans have the right to boo him or cheer him. The fans through the history of wrestling entertainment have been able to tell management by their reactions to superstars if they want to cheer them or not. The fans pay top dollar for tickets and WWE merchandise, their opinions should be considered and listen to.
When they get bored of a good guy character they start booing. What usually happens is a monster heel turn for that good guy superstar. This than breathes life and interest back in to this stale character’s attitude and is a good change for a him. It makes them more interesting and future storylines excite the fans because they want to know what will happen next. The WWE needs to listen to their audience when they are telling them. They want to see a change in Cena. John Cena is boring and they need to get his character interesting again.
John Cena needs this badly, even though he the WWE fears they will lose merchandise sells at all events. They will lose some of younger audience , but Vince McMahon needs to realize most of the WWE’s audience is between 18 to 34 years old. Those young children that cheered for Cena years ago are the main ones booing him now .Cm Punk , Zach Ryder and other superstars merchandise sales would replace any loss revenue from a Cena Heel turn.
If Vince McMahon needs an example of how a heel turn is actually a boost to audience’s interest and overall revenue to a wrestling company. They can look at Hulk Hogan when he joined the NWO. WCW was battling the WWE in a ratings war, and Hogan’s Heel turn stunned the wrestling industry and everyone tuned into see what would happen next. They got to see Hogan fight as a bad guy against the likes of Macho Man, Ric Flair, and other superstars. The fans never saw Hogan taunt super stars or cheat before, they booed him loudly and the heel turn was an extraordinary success.
Cena is booked to fight The Rock at this year’s Wrestlemania. The WWE is building it as the top two super stars of their generations fighting one and other. The fans are the cheering for the rock and continuing to act like Cena is the heel going in to their match anyways. When they were a tag team at the Survivor Series Cena was heavily booed and The Rock got a monstrous reaction for doing his finishing move on Cena after their match.
The perfect time to start this bad guy heel turn is the night after the Royal Rumble. This will spike interest in the John Cena vs the rock build up for their match at wrestlemania. That match with The Rock as a huge fan favorite and the Cena as the monster heel would make this match as popular as Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant at Wrestlemania 3, or Hulk Hogan vs Macho Man at Wrestlemania 5. In both of these matches the Macho Man and Andre turned heel before their Wrestlemania matches with Hogan ,and their feuds ,and matches were classics that are still talked about to today.
John Cena can take lessons from the Hogan and other major superstars that had heel turns and use them make their characters much more interesting again. A feud with CM Punk or the Miz for example with a heel Cena would draw huge ratings. In the end it is up to Vince McMahon and he has made it clear that John Cena brings in more revenue than any of his current superstars. He does not care what the audience says or feels, as long as the WWE keeps its money making enterprise going the way it is.

I agree it makes since to turn Cena heel my
4 year old boy loves Cena but the other night he said man daddy is he ever going to do any thing different when a four year old is getting bored with Cena that is saying something they need to turn him loose and he could be a Rick flair or a hogan or even a rock if we rember rock use to be a good guy at the begining of his WWE start they tired to make him to good as well and everyone hated it they let him turn heel and we have the rock as we know him today. Please listen to the fans and my
4 year old if you are loosing people that young then u know u are lossibg the older fans and if that happens they will just change the channel !!!!!!!!
While I agree, keeping things fresh and interesting with someone as polarizing as Cena is needed, looking to WCW NWO Hogan is probably not a good place to draw lessons from. If I’m not mistaken, didn’t the short term gains made by making Hogan the NWO heel shoved in everyone’s face so quickly partly responsible for the company going belly up down the road?
As of right now, January 25th 2012…We are VERY VERY Close to a John Cena Heel Turn. The last two RAW’s plus the segment with Piper have me convinced they are actually going to pull it off and as soon as the Royal Rumble. This brilliant Feud with Kane, albeit a bit corny, is PERFECT. However please everyone don’t quote me on all this…cause WWE has a knack lately for screwing up Storylines. A Heel Turn the Night after, however, is NOT a good idea. I say they should do it at the Royal Rumble, makes more sense. Have Cena Lose to Kane, then Ryder comes down to either aide Cena or just get his revenge on Kane…only to Have John finally embrace the hate and brutally assault his former friend and Kane as well. AS the WWE Universe boo’s John, he takes the microphone and cuts a quick promo before closing the show, “Why are you all booing me for?! You take the side of the Rock who is never here, yet I am here every week? IF anything I should be booing YOU, this is what you wanted isn’t it?”
Little Kid tries to cheer him, “Why you cheering me for? I don’t care what this kid here thinks…only matter of time before he starts booing me as well. In Fact, I don’t care what ANY Of you PEOPLE Think, you can all go to hell.”
Throw in some Hogan-esque stuff in there, and WWE will just have saved themselves in the ratings department for a long time.
WWE honest to god has a deadline of WrestleMania 28 to turn this Man Heel. If it is not done by Wrestlemania 28, I am done with the WWE, as bad as that sounds. I also don’t care what the smarks gotta say about it as well, argue with me or not…it’s people like them keeping this man his stale superman annoying and Corny self at the FACE level. A Cena Heel Turn is badly needed. No, NOT a New edge to his character, a full blown Heel Turn and nothing else. Over the last year, Ive lost interest in the show all together that I barely ever watch it, and when I DO watch, its when the Rock has showed up Live. I do however catch the results, have been ever since the Roddy Piper segment with Cena
. IF Cena aint Heel in the next two months, I will be done with WWE forever and only will watch if Rock shows up
