With the announcement that the winner of John Cena vs. Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell will earn a shot at Brock Lesnar, the obvious questions have become who and when. Who will go on to face Lesnar and when will the match take place?
Early rumors suggest that it will be Cena going on to face Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. Yes, not until January and for the third time in six months. While there’s no doubt one more money match between Cena and Lesnar left, is it really in WWE‘s best interest to have it so quickly?
The fresh feel of an Orton win at HIAC is the way to go. It appears that The Viper is going to turn face at some point in the near future, based on his recent actions and given that he was curb stomped on MNR, and he’s one of the few formidable opponents for The Beast.
Plus, isn’t having Lesnar off of TV from September to January too long? Having a part-time champion is fine, but you’d think WWE would want to put their title holder on display at least once more between now and Rumble.
Orton vs. Lesnar at Survivor Series is the match WWE should book. It’s a match that would intrigue fans, mainly because it would be fresh and quality at the same time. It’s not a match worthy of a main event spot on WWE’s big three PPVs, but it’s certainly a main event match for the other nine.
Why not beef Survivor Series back up a little with a high profile WWE title match? It’s a PPV that needs it, unlike TLC which sells itself to an extent. Orton doesn’t have to and shouldn’t win. But the match would be great, it would give fans something new, all while allowing Lesnar to run through another top star to solidify his place atop the mountain on the way to WM 31.
