Jeff Jarrett started pushing a new concept months ago — a new promotion that he called Global Force Wrestling. Critics early on passed it off as just another failure waiting to happen, assuming Jarrett was just trying to fill the gap that would be created after TNA finally went out of business.
Then he shut some of the critics up by very slowly releasing his intentions in bits and pieces. It isn’t going to be your average match-promo-match-promo professional wrestling company. There may or may not be one core roster of wrestlers. When they get a TV deal, the show isn’t going to look or act like Monday Night RAW or Impact Wrestling. Global isn’t just going to be a name, he said. It’s a big part of the concept.
Weeks and months have gone by and Jarrett has been expanding, putting together deals and very importantly, getting the name out there. He still hasn’t announced any type of talent roster, though that may be part of the upcoming set of announcements. We know that the founder of TNA Wrestling has signed deals with many major and minor pro wrestling companies around the world and has met with others, such as Ring of Honor, which is generally thought of as the No. 3 promotion in the United States.
Jarrett has inked partnerships with the second-biggest company in professional wrestling today, Japan’s New Japan Pro Wrestling, as well as the third-largest and most successful company, Mexico’s AAA promotion. He has deals in England, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and many other places all over the globe. He really is staying true to the name.
What is set to be announced in November? The word is that there will be news on the first shows that will be run under the Global Force Wrestling banner and clarification on exactly what the talent roster will look like. Will the company be similar to the National Wrestling Alliance? The NWA had (and still has) territories all over the world, but was primarily based out of the southeast of the United States.
Will Jarrett’s Global Force be the same? Will talent fly in from around the globe to wrestle at his shows in the U.S.? Will they run shows at already-established venues of the companies they have partnered with, and co-branding the shows as “GFW And” or GFW Presents?” That is tough to say, as Jarrett has played his cards very close to the vest.
Hopefully the news on the horizon will answer a lot of those questions. Jarrett will also be appearing on Jim Ross’ new podcast for an interview on December 15, which is sure to be interesting. Will Good ‘Ol JR himself be announcing any type of involvement with the company?
All I can say right now is that I am very highly anticipating what we will find out next and how things will develop in the new year. Hopefully it doesn’t fall apart; if it does, though, all of the merchandise that they have already produced will help clothe many poor children in impoverished countries. It’s a win-win situation!
