There haven’t been many seeds planted for WrestleMania thus far, and by now fans usually have an idea as to what the top stars are going to be doing. Unfortunately, Roman Reigns is likely set to win the Royal Rumble and defeat Brock Lesnar at Levi’s Stadium, but that is about all I know.
After next week’s episode of Raw, the WWE will begin officially building toward the Royal Rumble PPV. According to the news on the street, the January 5 edition of Monday Night Raw will see the beginning a major new storyline. There are no details regarding who will be involved, whether it will be something that will directly lead to the main event at WrestleMania 31, or if it might have a larger scope, so why not speculate?
The most obvious assumption would be a major interaction between Lesnar and Reigns. Brock could try to get involved where he doesn’t belong, and Reigns would get in front of him and knock him out with a Superman punch — there you have it, the first shot has been fired. The scenario assumes that Lesnar will retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Royal Rumble against John Cena, but let’s not kid ourselves into thinking there’s even a remote possibility that Cena is going to get the belt back.
Could the new storyline involve Cena? Not a heel turn, because it wouldn’t make any sense with his match against Lesnar coming up, and … sorry, it just ain’t gonna happen. Maybe we’ll get a Bray Wyatt-like situation where a young star tries to use Cena to make a name for himself. That guy doesn’t need to have any meaningful TV time for the rest of the spring and summer anyway, as long as he realizes that he can’t usurp Cena’s spot.
I’m going to guess that a new permanent GM will be announced. Who will it be? I am just as in the dark about this as anyone else. Maybe Christian will assume the role after his guest spot with Edge next week. No matter what the case is, WWE has me ready to tune in on January 5.
