On the final episode of Raw in 2014, Cesaro was given a short and less than thrilling opportunity — if you can call it that — to explain who he is and why he’s great, and it didn’t do him any favors. It seems as though the promo was designed just to make him look like a nerd. He talks about how he is going to have a great year and then gets beat up like a local Indy guy brought in just to make Bad News Barrett look good.
Most people didn’t exactly get what Vince McMahon was talking about when he said Cesaro wasn’t connecting, since it was completely different from what we saw on TV every week from near the end of his run with Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter, all the way through his bizarre time with Paul Heyman. The fans loved him, he was winning matches and looking good, and then they decided to turn him heel after a very short time as a face, which confused everyone.
The crowd tried to voice dissatisfaction with the choice, but it’s tough to do that when they barely even have time to react to his existence with the lack of TV time.
Cesaro has now been put into a new tag team with Tyson Kidd, another guy who was given some play for a while (as part of the Hart Dynasty with Harry Smith) before having his hands chopped off. I fear, as I tend to, that both men are being placed together just because creative has nothing for them. It’s a random team with a pair who has been neglected for a long time, and that spells disaster far, far too often.
But hey, they appear to be starting a feud with The New Day, and that’s a team with a clear direction who hasn’t been spinning their wheels since their formation!
