When Edge and Christian hosted RAW a few weeks ago, we were reminded about the long term rivalry between Edge and John Cena, which played into the closing angle of the show. Their feud was the go-to pairing any time WWE wanted to go to something that worked (for the most part). The man who came out victorious at the end of that episode was Seth Rollins, who was able to goad Cena into bringing back The Authority in an attempt to save his respected rival. Rollins, as I have stated recently, was absolutely masterful in his performance and has come into his own as a far above average, well-rounded performer. He’s hated by the WWE universe and has done a great job at doing the big, and little, things to make them continue to feel the same way.
Dolph Ziggler has become not only the internet’s favorite son, but is also widely supported by WWE crowds the world over. His work ethic and dedication to having the best match of the night each and every night has opened a lot of eyes. Even when he was actively being held back, his hard work kept the crowd from forgetting about just how good he is, and now he is inching ever so close to being at the top of the heap. His performance in the elimination tag team match at the Survivor Series event was phenomenal and he was given the honor of being the man who came back from a 3-1 deficit to be the match’s sole survivor and send The Authority home (for less than two months, but I digress).
The stars appear to be ready to become aligned. Rollins is in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match in a couple weeks at the Royal Rumble PPV and Ziggler is sure to be there as well, following up on his storyline departure at the hands of Rollins’ corporate backing. It’s not quite Seth’s time just yet to take hold of the title, but come late spring/early summer, he will be holding the gold. Dolph Ziggler will chase him for it and get a shot or two, but he won’t win just yet. The money, they say, is in the chase. Dolph, in my perfect world, would have to spend most of the year fighting through all of the thugs and goons that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon can throw at him before winning the 2016 Royal Rumble match and it’s Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 32.
It’s obvious that WWE is incredibly serious about Seth Rollins being a tippy-top main event guy. Things seem to finally be heading that direction regarding their feelings toward Ziggler, albeit slowly. It’s going to happen and people WILL be putting Rollins vs. Ziggler up there with Cena vs. Edge, Rock vs. Austin and Diesel vs. Mabel.
Well, maybe not that last one.
