The world famous Jeritron 6500 was raised up to the rafters before Chris Jericho introduced his guests for last Monday night’s Highlight Reel. Jericho hosted his show with guests Kevin Owens and his longtime friend and bitter rival Sami Zayn. While the story arc between the two men has been solid and consistent, it has lacked that true emotional connection that their feuds have garnered in the past.
For one, there hasn’t been a new narrative created to push the feud in a direction that will get the whole WWE Universe invested in it as much as they could be. I’m not sure if WWE is giving its fans more credit than they should inasmuch as assuming they have a basic knowledge of how deep their back story truly runs or if they’re just lazy and hoping that people get emotionally invested based on their free few months in NXT and WWE constantly telling us that they hate each other but giving little other substance outside of them punching each other as often as possible.
However, last week he made a single point that makes their scheduled match at Battleground much more important. It may be the last time for a long time that each man has a chance to get a shot at his greatest foe. I wonder if they are indeed going to be split up on July 19. It would probably be great for both of them, making an eventual reunion great, especially if they end up in a situation that sees them teaming up for a little while.
Either way, hopefully they will emphasize that this can be their last chance to fight and let them tear the house down. The WWE Championship match will likely end in an inconclusive manner and John Cena vs. AJ Styles will be great, so there’s no issue when it comes to WWE not wanting one match to show up a “more important” match.
