Although there is no official word as of 11 a.m. on Sunday morning, there are three tweets and a new Twitter handle that indicate 2014 wing Vincent Edwards of Middletown, Ohio will commit to Purdue. Amazing how Twitter has changed the way recruitment is covered.

That’s probably as strong as circumstantial evidence of an impending commitment as you’ll find on Twitter. So hang tight Purdue fans because Matt Painter may be on the verge of landing his first 2014 commitment.

So what would it mean if Purdue received a commitment from Edwards? Purdue would be getting a versatile 6-7, 200 lb. wing that can handle the ball, shoot it from 3, and rebound very well. Edwards currently has offers from Xavier, Dayton, and Purdue. He has also received interest from Ohio State, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and others.

Stats: As just a sophomore, Edwards averages better than a double-double for his Middletown, Ohio high school team: 15.4 PPG, 12.4 RPG, 1.5 BPG, 2.5 APG, 1.0 SPG, 50.7% FG%, 37.5 3PT %, and 73% FT%.

Personal: His father was a legend at nearby Wright State and had a short stint with the Philadelphia 76ers before playing overseas. His older brother currently plays for Miami Ohio.

Evaluation: Edwards has impressed scouts with his versatility and potential. Here’s a scouting report of Edwards’ play at a January 2012 hoops event:

The sophomore wing, who is regarded by some as the top prospect in his class in Ohio, proved he is worth the hype in his team’s matchup with Huntington Prep. Edwards showed his signature versatile offensive package. The 6-6 forward knocked down three-pointers, handled the ball as a point-forward and rebounded at a high rate. With schools such as Indiana, Ohio State, Xavier, Dayton, Wisconsin and Purdue all showing early interest, this will not be the last you hear of Edwards.

Comparisons: I would compare Edwards physically to 2013 Purdue commit Basil Smotherman. Aspects of his inside-out game remind me of class of 2012 Indiana signee Jeremy Hollowell. Other comparisons could include Robbie Hummel because Edwards’ ability to bring the ball up the floor at 6-7 should allow him to start fast breaks after securing a rebound. This is something Matt Painter looks for when evaluating prospects.

Edwards committing to Purdue would be huge news for Purdue fans, so let’s hope it happens!
