QB Matt Leinart was released by the Arizona Cardinals and now the Leinart where will he end up sweepstakes in underway. Place your bets, round and round he goes, where he ends up, nobody knows. One place he won’t end up is with the Seattle Seahawks. Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks have decided that they would rather pursue Patrick Ramsey according to reports, than Matt Leinart. Most coaches like to bring in players they have had success with in the past. Look how many players Bill Parcells drug around with him from the New York Giants, to the Patriots to the Cowboys and so on. Here’s a quarterback that won a Heisman trophy and a National Championship for Pete Carroll and he would rather have Patrick Ramsey. Are you kidding me? That is silence which is deafening as to what he thinks of Leinart. He could have him now and wouldn’t have to absorb his pricey contract and not even an offer for the southpaw. Wow.
So who wants him? Leinart has said he wants to go somewhere and be a starting quarterback, at this point only an injury to a starter would give him that position. If he wants to be a starter, he should go to the UFL and play for a year and showcase what he can or cannot do.
Who is rumored to want him? According to Cincinnati.com, it appears the Cincinnati Bengals might have an interest. The Bengals along with the Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bengals have three quarterbacks on their roster, with J.T. O’Sullivan backing up Carson Palmer. The New Orleans Saints have second year QB Chase Daniel backing up Drew Brees. The Buffalo Bills quarterback situation is a mess and I think the Bills are in a holding pattern this season until they can draft Washington’s QB Jake Locker. Of the five teams listed, the Jacksonville Jaguars do make the most sense. With David Garrard failing to live up to expectations and journeyman Luke McCown on the roster, the Jaguars might provide Leinart the best opportunity. Then again, if he couldn’t beat out Derek Anderson in Arizona, he isn’t guaranteed to make roster.
