Well, last week was a blowout. I had been drinking the offseason kool-aid about the Oakland Raiders. The San Francisco 49′ers got blown out by the Seattle Seahawks. I greatly underestimated the two young cornerbacks of the New England Patriots along with the superhuman ability of Wes Welker. I picked the Detroit Lions to beat the Chicago Bears, and that should have been a touchdown by Calvin Johnson. My heart goes out to you Lions fans, you guys just cannot catch a break. I was looking forward to seeing Stafford put up a great year. So on to this weeks pick. And for you football fans, wondering what game you’ll be seeing where you live if you don’t have the NFL Sunday Ticket package, check out this cool site I found, which updates weekly. The 506. It’s great for all sports.
Pittsburgh Steelers-Tennessee Titans-
For those of you following the Chris Johnson march to 2500 yards, he only needs 2358 more yards to reach his goal. That translates into 158 yards a game. Pittsburgh came away with a 15-9 overtime win last week against the Falcons. Vince Young seems to be putting his talent to work finally. Titans 27 Steelers 23
Baltimore Ravens -Cincinnati Bengals-
Baltimore won a hard fought contest on Monday night. The Ravens lost to the Bengals in both games they played last season and I like that trend to continue. Baltimore has some issues in their secondary. New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez was unable to exploit those issues because he couldn’t push the ball down field, Carson Palmer will. I also don’t like teams that win on Monday night going on the road the following week. Bengals 23 Ravens 20
Philadelphia Eagles-Detroit Lions
It’s looking more and more like Michael Vick will play this week. If Vick plays like he did against Green Bay, there is going to be a full blown quarterback controversy in Philly next week. Detroit will have Shaun Hill under center as Matthew Stafford deals with his separated shoulder. Eagles get in the win column this week. Eagles31 Lions 13
Arizona Cardinals- Atlanta Falcons
The Cardinals escaped with a win last week against the St. Louis Rams. This week they won’t as fortunate in the Falcons home opener. I like the Falcons 24 Cardinals 16
Miami Dolphins- Minnesota Vikings
I like the Dolphins this year, a lot. Unfortunately their offense is predicated on the running game and the Vikings have a very stout run defense. The Metrodome is a difficult place to play. It is very loud and that dreadful horn they blow, maybe this year Viking fans will have purchased those annoying vuvuzela horns left over from the World Cup. I think the Minnesota defense wins this and Favre continues to struggle. Vikings 20 Dolphins 16
Kansas City Chiefs- Cleveland Browns
It is unknown whether or not Browns QB Jake Delhomme will play this week. If he doesn’t, Seneca Wallace will start in his place. Wallace brings a different dimension at quarterback for the Browns with his mobility. Kansas City is coming off a Monday night win against their division opponent the San Diego Chargers. Browns 24 Chiefs 20
Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Carolina Panthers
Matt Moore should start at quarterback this week after suffering a concussion against the New York Giants last Sunday. The Panthers running back tandem of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart has owned the Tampa Bay Bucs the past few seasons. This game will prove whether or not the Buccaneers have in fact improved their putrid run defense over last year. I’m not sold on the fact the Bucs are good enough to win on the road yet. Panthers 19 Bucs 13
Buffalo Bills-Green Bay Packers
The Packers are going to be without RB Ryan Grant for the year. The Buffalo Bills have surprisingly a very good secondary. Last year, only the New York Jets were better against the pass than the Buffalo Bills. This is Green Bay’s home opener, Buffalo doesn’t have enough offensive firepower to hang with Green Bay. Green Bay 31 Buffalo 16
Chicago Bears-Dallas Cowboys
The battle between the two worst offensive lines in football. Dallas is one holding call from being 1-0. Chicago should have lost last week. Dallas 27 Chicago 16
Seattle Seahawks-Denver Broncos
Was the opening day 31-6 beatdown of the 49ers for real? We’ll see how well they play away from the friendly confines of Qwest field. Denver 23 Seattle 17
St. Louis Rams-Oakland Raiders
Attention fantasy owners, if you have Darren McFadden, you need to be starting him this week. The Raiders will rebound this week. Oakland 27 St. Louis 13
Jacksonville Jaguars-San Diego Chargers
An East coast team traveling to the West coast. San Diego coming off a loss Monday night against the Chiefs. I think the Jaguars will see a heavy dose of Ryan Matthews and Antonio Gates. Chargers 28 Jaguars 16
New England Patriots-New York Jets
I wonder what the over/under on how many F-bombs Ryan drops in this game is. You know Tom Brady had to be drooling Monday night as Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco was abusing Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson opposite Darrelle Revis. Patriots 20 New York 13
Houston Texans-Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins came away with a victory Sunday night, but the Dallas Cowboys beat themselves. Houston is fresh off a win, only it’s second in franchise history against divisional foe, the Indianapolis Colts. Expect Matt Schaub to get rolling this week. Houston 26 Washington 17
New York Giants-Indianapolis Colts
It’s the Manning Bowl once again. Remember this? I could could the rest of my life and be fine with never having to watch that disturbing video ever again. Indianapolis 31 New York 21
Monday Night
New Orleans Saints-San Francisco 49er’s
After the game. 49er’s head coach Mike Singletary sends Saints head coach Sean Payton a FTD friendship bouquet and a 100.00 Outback steakhouse gift card, thanking him for the loss. Saints 30 49er’s 20
