The Dallas Cowboys are 0-2 and headed towards a possible 0-3 start, and you know that won’t sit will with Jerry Jones, so who should replace Wade Phillips as the coach of the Dallas Cowboys? I fully expect Wade Phillips will be fired next week if the Cowboys start 0-3. Heading into 2009, Wade Phillips was rumored to be on the bubble unless he was able to win a playoff game, the goodwill Phillips gained last season has been used up with the quality of play Phillips has put on the field in the first two games this season and will be completely gone after a loss this Sunday. So who is next in line to take over  control of the Cowboys?

Jason Garrett- Garrett was the darling of the coaching world and was rumored to become the next head coach in the NFL a few seasons ago. If Wade Phillips is fired next week or at any point this season, Garrett will most likely assume control of the team and be given a short period of time to prove he is worthy of leading the Cowboys in 2011.

Jerry Jones will likely hand the keys of the Cowboys to someone who has significant NFL experience. After all, Dallas is loaded with talent and the window to make a Super Bowl run with a team is very small. Jerry Jones has never shied away from hiring confrontational coaches. There are some experienced coaches available, so who gets the call?

Marty Schottenheimer- Schottenheimer, 66,  is like the relief pitcher of NFL coaches. You call Marty when you want to turn a franchise around. Schotteneimer will always be known as one of the great motivators in the NFL, but always will be remembered for his 5-13 post-season record and the moniker of never being able to win the big game.

Bill Cowher- Cowher is another great motivator, and comes with a Super Bowl Championship on his resume along with a career coaching record of 149-90-1. Cowher has long been linked to a possible coaching job with the Carolina Panthers since he lives in Carolina and the Panthers head coach, John Fox is in the last year of his contract. Cowher’s team have long been known for tough defensive play.

Jon Gruden- If there is coach out there who could figure out how to utilize all of the offensive weapons on the Dallas Cowboys, it would be Jon Gruden. He became the head coach of the Oakland Raiders and made veteran journeyman quarterback Rich Gannon a Pro-Bowl quarterback. Gruden won a Super Bowl with Brad Johnson as a quarterback. There is the constant debate in the Tampa area of whether Gruden earned the Super Bowl title he coached the Buccaneers to or he inherited a team built by predecessor Tony Dungy. Gruden was handcuffed by a salary cap issue after joining the Buccaneers and once the Bucs got 60 million free for free agent acquisitions, Tampa fired Gruden along with GM Bruce Allen.  Gruden is currently working for ESPN as a Monday Night Football analyst.

Jerry Jones does nothing on the small scale. He loves to make a splash, simply look at the Cowboy’s new stadium. I think Jon Gruden will become the new coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 2011, provided there is a season. There is a small window of opportunity for teams to reach the Super Bowl and the Cowboys need an offensive minded coach to get the most out of the playmakers they have on the roster. Gruden would relish the spotlight of coaching the high profile Cowboys and Jerry Jones would love the attention. I fully expect to see Gruden leave the booth next year and return to the sidelines for Dallas. The only thing that would save Wade Phillips at this point is a trip to the Super Bowl.

I am not happy with the direction the Cowboys have taken in recent years.
If Jerry Jones could only ” let the coaches COACH”, and stay off the field
so much, we would be better off. Maybe he should try it for one WHOLE season!
It might just work. On that note, we would probablly still have Jimmy as a
    coach.
If Jerry REQUIRES soooo much control of “HIS” team, maybe HE should be the
    next coach!!
This is just my humble oppinion. It kind of reminds me of a fish out of water
flopping around. I really hope it gets turned around soon!!

jerry should say he is sorry to Jimmy Johnson and begforhis return (publicly). And ifthat doesnt work he should hire a Gm and give Wade full controlover the team. jerry is his and the Cowboy’s worst enemy. period.
