Will out of work RB Larry Johnson wind up with the St. Louis Rams. According to Yahoo! Sports, the displaced running back has spoken with the St Louis Rams after Rams RB Steven Jackson suffered a groin injury which might sideline the Pro-Bowl back a week or possibly longer.
Larry Johnson had signed on with the Washington Redskins this past offseason along with fellow veteran RB Willie Parker, both however were released from the Redskins team. The St. Louis Rams were one of the teams rumored to be interested in signing veteran RB Brian Westbrook, who eventually signed on with the San Francisco 49er’s. Westbrook has only touched the ball three times in the regular season for the 49er’s.
Johnson’s best days are well behind him and if he signs with the Rams, it will be his 4th team in two years. I watched Johnson play in the preseason and while he did look to be the better of the two backs between Willie Parker and Johnson, but that is not saying much. Johnson has no explosiveness left and no longer plants and cuts, he sort of rounds off his end around runs these days. Johnson won’t strike any fear in defenses the way Steven Jackson does.
But then again, if the Rams are looking for veteran depth at the running back position, there is not a lot left out on the street right now.
The guys got a lot of excess baggage (4 assault charges). The Rams should leave him alone. Set some standards for crying out loud!!
