Is Chicago Bears DT Tommie Harris on the trade block? The benched former first-round selection did not play Monday night against the Green Bay Packers and he doesn’t know if he’ll play against the New York Giants on Sunday either. Team officials have denied comment on whether he’ll play of not.
Harris told reporters that he is not seeking a trade, “No, I don’t want to be traded. I love Chicago. I love my team. I love my teammates and I play hard for this city. I play hard for my players. That is what I do every time I am out there”. Well, obviously he isn’t paying as hard as he possibly could because the Bears coaching staff and general manager Jerry Angelo have said the benching of Harris is performance related.
Harris’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus was at the Bears game on Monday night and met with team officials after the game. Rosenhaus has not commented publicly about Harris’ status or whether he is seeking a trade for his client.
Even if Harris were to be traded, the Bears might not get very much in return. Harris’ benching might simply be a motivational move by the Bears coaching staff or it might signal that Chicago has simply had enough the his underachieving on the field and are moving forward. If he does not play this Sunday against the Giants, it could signal that the Bears want to move him before the October 19th trade deadline.
