With the departure of WR Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings, will the New England Patriots now trade for WR Vincent Jackson? Jackson is serving a mandatory 6 game suspension. The New England Patriots are currently in their bye week. The New England Patriots are going to need a deep threat receiver.
With the culmination of the trade with the Minnesota Vikings, the New England Patriots now have 2 picks in each of the first four rounds of next years draft. They have Oakland’s first round pick, Carolina’s second round pick, Denver’s fourth round pick and now Minnesota’s third round selection.
The Patriots have several receivers which are suited for the role of a number two receiver. Wes Welker, and Julian Edleman immediately come to mind. The Patriots leading receiver is TE Aaron Hernandez which New England could line up on the outside. Second year WR Brandon Tate is starting to get more looks but they still don’t have a legitimate number one receiver on the roster.
Perhaps the Patriots don’t need one. The Patriots won World Championships with receivers such as Deion Branch and Troy Brown, but a big time receiver like a Vincent Jackson would allow Wes Welker to continue his success.
I doubt that the Patriots will trade for Jackson even with the collection of draft picks they have stockpiled. New England loves to collect draft picks and build their team through the draft rather than making a splash with high priced free agents.
Randy Moss came to New England with the reputation of being a problem child, for the majority of his time with the Patriots, Moss was a model citizen. Vincent Jackson has his own issues. He is serving a four game suspension because of two DUI’s. If Jackson were to violate the league’s personal conduct policy again, he could be lost for an entire year. Additionally, Jackson does not have a contract and is reportedly demanding a Brandon Marshall type contract.
I really hope the Pats trade for Vjax. They are going to need a deep threat as I don’t think they can get it done with what they got.
