The NFL trade deadline is approaching tomorrow and there are three trades which have to happen by the end of the day Tuesday. The Carolina Panthers have to trade WR Steve Smith. The New England Patriots need to move OL Logan Mankins. And the Washington Redskins need to trade Albert Haynesworth.

WR Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers- Despite a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Carolina Panthers have said they won’t trade Steve Smith, I think it is one of their best options. All the Carolina Panthers are playing for this season is the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, why not trade a talented wide receiver that you might be able to get a second round pick for? The Panthers have a lot of problems and they look to have serious issues at quarterback as well. By the time the Panthers might be re-stocked and ready to make another run at the playoffs, Smith will be well on the wrong side of 30. Possible destinations- St Louis Rams and Washington Redskins. Both teams are right in the thick of the muddled NFC playoff hunt and both teams need a serious playmaker at wide receiver.

OG Logan Mankins, New England Patriots- The New England Patriots and Logan Mankins have been at an impasse all season, with neither side appearing to budge. With the Chicago Bears on pace to have Jay Cutler sacked over 60 times this season, why wouldn’t the Bears want some insurance to help keep their starting quarterback upright?

DT Albert Haynesworth, Washington Redskins- The Albert Haynesworth/Washington Redskins drama has been discussed ad nauseam over the past few months. The Washington Redskins are only one game back in the NFC East, Haynesworth has only 5 solo tackles and one assist so far this season. It is very obvious that Haynesworth and Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan are not seeing eye to eye, why not ship him back to the Tennessee Titans? Cut your losses and move forward.
