Heading into their bye week, you have to ask the question, are the New York Giants the team to beat in the NFC right now. On the surface, you have to say yes. In a muddied NFC, the New York Giants appear to be hitting on all cylinders right now.

After starting 1-2, rumors started to swirl that Giants head coach Tom Coughlin might be on the hot seat. Generally, those discussions are enough to fire up the Giants and get them on a winning streak and right on cue, that’s exactly what has happened with the G-men running off four straight.

From top to bottom, statistically speaking, the Giants are the NFC’s best team currently. New York has the second rated offense and the third rated defense. RB Ahmad Bradshaw leads the NFL in rushing with 708 yards. The Giants have 16 forced fumbles and 24 sacks on the young season as well. Not only do the Giants sack quarterbacks, they run them from the game. Jay Cutler, Matt Moore, Todd Collins, Shaun Hill and most recently have all been knocked out of games against the Giants.

Perhaps the weakest link on the Giants is the play of their starting quarterback, Eli Manning. Manning started last nights game with two interceptions and Manning’s play has helped to contribute to the Giants being -5 in the takeaway/giveaway category. Manning has thrown 11 interceptions so far this season and is on pace to throw 25.

So far, Manning’s weakness has been offset by the great play of the defense and a strong running game. It’s a long season and anything can happen but as of right now, the New York Giants have to be considered the best team in the NFC, despite what Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris says.
