Todd Haley Refuses to Shave Until Kansas City Chiefs Lose Again
After an 0-3 start, the Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as one of the hottest teams in football over the last couple of weeks thanks to a three-game winning streak–with their latest win coming last Sunday on the road against the Oakland Raiders. There’s numerous reasons as to what sparked the Chiefs to all of a sudden play like the defending AFC West champions again, but there’s one crazy idea that’s being talked about as the reason behind the team’s recent success–head coach Todd Haley’s beard.
According to Chris Chase of Yahoo! Sports, Haley has kept his beard since Kansas City’s Week 4 win against the Minnesota Vikings and he refuses to get rid of the facial hair until his team loses. The beard has been uncomfortable for the third-year head coach, but he believes it’s brought his team some extra luck over the last three games–so he’s willing to toughen up and keep it going for a little longer.
The funny thing is, Haley could be growing his beard out until the end of November considering the Chiefs seem capable of winning their next three games. After their Monday night matchup at home against the San Diego Chargers, Kansas City hosts the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos the following two weeks before a five-game stretch against teams with winning records.
Facial hair has been a good-luck charm numerous times before in sports (remember Ben Roethlisberger during his first Super Bowl?) and it should be interesting to see how long this new look lasts for Haley and the Chiefs. Even if they do end up on the losing end Monday night, Kansas City still deserves all of the credit in the world for their incredible turn around over the last three games.
