Sources: Denver Broncos Not Hiding Desperation for Peyton Manning
Tim Tebow is the Denver Broncos starting quarterback.
For now, that is.
As Peyton Manning became an available free agent with his official release from the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, several teams across the NFL expressed their interest in the first-ballot Hall of Famer’s services.
Of the bunch, the Denver Broncos have been the most vocal. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King tweeted the following this morning about the Broncos’ interest in Manning:
Broncos representatives will be present in Stillwater, Oklahoma today for the Oklahoma State Pro Day, so presumably, the Manning Watch will shift it’s focus to planes landing in Oklahoma.
If Denver did bring Manning on board, it would make sense from a football perspective. Tim Tebow would have the chance to be mentored by one of the game’s greats, and pressure would be taken off his back to produce next season, and give him a chance to work on mechanics and fine-tuning his play behind center.
Along with this relationship, the Broncos would be a strong competitor to make a run toward an AFC Championship and Super Bowl berth in 2013.
Manning wouldn’t be a long-term fix for John Elway and John Fox, but would be a perfect stop-gap measure given the team’s circumstances.
Either way, the Peyton Manning Circus is still in the first act– we’ve got a long way to go before any resolution.
