According to sources, Peyton Manning will soon be the new quarterback of the Denver Broncos.

According to both Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter of ESPN, Manning informed team president John Elway of his decision earlier this morning:

More filed to ESPN: And now that Peyton Manning has directed his agent to get deal done with Denver, Broncos will try to trade Tim Tebow.

After several weeks of visits to multiple NFL markets, including Miami, Tennessee, and San Francisco, the first-ballot Hall-of-Famer has chosen to don the Orange and Blue next season, in essence ending the tenure of former sweetheart Tim Tebow in the process.

One of the standing questions must be what will happen to Tebow now that Manning has arrived and will become the team’s No. 1 option at quarterback before he ever takes a snap.

Will the Broncos keep Tebow as insurance, hoping that a student-mentor relationship with Manning could prepare him to be a solid NFL signal caller upon Manning’s decision to walk away from the game?

Will John Elway and John Fox do their best to get the best value they can for Tebow–perhaps from the Jacksonville Jaguars– while they can during the off-season?

It’s hard to know for now, but one thing is for sure, Tebowmania as we know it has died a sudden and harsh death.

Peyton Manning arrives in the Mile High City lacking the weapons to which he was accustomed in Indianpolis, but that isn’t to say there couldn’t be some emerge with his vocal and direct leadership.

Wide receivers Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas both showed flashes of brilliance this season, which could be amplified by Manning’s precision passing and offensive confidence.

The understated factor here, also, is that other potential wideout options may now consider Denver an attractive destination. While guys like Mario Manningham, Brandon Marshall, and Vincent Jackson have already found new homes, it’s possible other high-profile free agents could be lured to Colorado.

Mike Wallace has been rumored to be considering a new home in recent days and could be just the guy the Broncos need to get over the hump not only in the AFC West but in the conference as a whole.

Either way, the Broncos have just become a contender.

What is a happy day for the Broncos faithful is a confounding one for Tim Tebow.

Such is the world of professional sports.
