Philadelphia Eagles Dealt Major Blow By Loss of LT Jason Peters
The Philadelphia Eagles got horrible news today when it was confirmed that five time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters ruptured his Achilles tendon while training in Texas.

Eagles head coach Andy Reid refused to speculate on the time table for Peters’ return, but it is unlikely he will play any time this season with such a serious injury.
“We are just going to let the surgical process and the rehabilitation process play itself out.” Reid said.
Peters, who is 30 years old, has made the Pro Bowl every year since 2007 and is considered one of the premier left tackles in the game. He has paved the way for the left side of their offensive line since the Eagles gave up three draft picks to get him in 2009. Since then, the Eagles have been one of the best rushing teams in the NFL.

According to Dr. Michael Kaplan, ESPN’s medical analyst, Peters’ ankle likely would be immobilized for two to four weeks, and he would undergo physical therapy for motion and strengthening for several months. He likely will miss a minimum of four to six months of football activity.
The latest return date of six months from now would put him at the end of September, and that estimate signifies when he can start running, not a return date.
I would be very surprised to see Peters play in 2012. He’ll begin the season on the physically unable to perform list, but I wouldn’t hold out hope if I were an Eagles fan.

It certainly would be a cheap option for the Eagles to pursue Kareem McKenzie, who has been told by the Giants he will not be brought back.
McKenzie would have to play right tackle, moving Todd Herremans over to left tackle. Though I get the idea the Eagles will want to have a better option protecting Michael Vick’s blind side. McKenzie went from one of the best right tackles in 2010 to one of the worst in 2011, mostly due to his age.
Demetrius Bell is still available, but I doubt he’s interested in a one year loaner contract. That said, an Achilles injury is pretty serious and Peters may never be the same. The Eagles might have to think long term when making their next move.
Either way, it is a tough break for the Eagles.
