Robert Griffin III Declines Indianapolis Colts of Private Workout
With the 2012 NFL Draft just a few weeks away, there’s been plenty of debate on whether the Indianapolis Colts will select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck or Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III with the No. 1 pick. While the Colts selecting Luck seemed to be a lock over the last couple of months, Griffin’s name has been thrown into the mix of possibly being the No. 1 pick–but that may change after Tuesday.
According to Colts owner Jim Irsay’s Twitter account via Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, Griffin has denied an invitation for a private workout with Indianapolis. Irsay was hoping for private workouts from both potential No. 1 picks, but Griffin’s agent apparently had other plans in mind.
As Florio indicates, this move can be taken in one of two ways. Either Griffin and his agent strongly believe the Colts have their mind set on selecting Luck with the No. 1 pick or the Baylor standout has his heart completely set on playing in Washington for the 2012 season.
Either way, this move may play a major impact in the debate as to whether Luck or Griffin will end up being the first name called on draft night in a few weeks. Maybe Griffin does have his heart set on ending up in Washington considering he not only held a recently autograph signing in which plenty of Redskins fans showed up, but he’s already seen specific merchandise made in his honor.
Plus, the Redskins did surrender all of those draft picks to the St. Louis Rams to move up in the draft–so maybe Griffin realizes which team wants him the most and would prefer to play in Washington.
