Ejected NFL Fans Will Soon Be Required to Take Online Behavior Tests
NFL football games are probably not the place to go to study proper etiquette and behavior. We as fans have a tendency to get a bit passionate about the teams we love, and even the most well-behaved individuals can turn into the worst fans at any given sporting event.
The NFL has decided, however, that enough is enough.
The league recently announced that beginning this fall, any fan that is kicked out of an NFL game in the upcoming 2012 season will be subject to taking and passing a code-of-conduct test before being allowed back to any games. The online test was created by a licensed therapist and is designed to teach fans how to behave properly.
In 2010, the idea was tested at New York Life Stadium, home of both the New York Jets and New York Giants, as well as the New England Patriot’s Gillette Stadium.
As part of the program, Jets and Giants fans who were kicked out of games for poor behavior were required to write a letter of apology to stadium security and ordered take and pass the four-hour, $75 online class.
According to an article on YahooSports, nearly 1/4 of those who were required to take the test, however, refused to do so. Their names and photos were placed in a book, and those fans were banned from any future games. Ten of them were actually caught by security guards at later games and arrested for trespassing.
This fall, a version of the testing program will be required at all NFL stadiums.
