Jacksonville Jaguars Claim Miami Dolphins Will Select Ryan Tannehill
According to multiple reports, the Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to convince teams across professional football prior to Thursday’s first-round of the 2012 NFL draft the Miami Dolphins plan to select former Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the No. 8 pick.
Jacksonville, who has been open about its desire to trade down from the No. 7 spot in the first round appears to be drumming up this rumor in the desire to find a trade partner who is searching for a quarterback with whom to swap first-round picks.
Jaguars general manager Pete Prisco appeared on a local talk radio show this morning, and local reporter Tania Ganguli tweeted the following regarding his comments:
It’s interesting the Dolphins have continued to deny interest in Ryan Tannehill. Usually continual denials are nothing more than a bluff to see what other teams will do, and just how much value a potential pick has on the open market.
One possible team that may be willing to bite on a trade offer from the Jacksonville Jaguars could be the Seattle Seahawks– who with an uncertain situation at quarterback, could be a nice partner for the Dolphins.
Given the fact that Ryan Tannehill’s draft stock has skyrocketed over the course of the past few months it wouldn’t be surprising to see any number of scenarios unfold– especially given he is now the de facto third-best quarterback in this year’s draft behind Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, each of whom are already off the board for all intents and purposes.
Is Jacksonville trying to call Miami’s bluff, or do they know something we don’t?
We’ll all find out when the first few picks come off the board on Thursday evening.
