Forbes Names New York Jets QB Tim Tebow Second Most Influential Athlete in United States
Last week, New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow was one of six athletes listed in Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People In The World.” Now, the popular quarterback can add another item to his list of accomplishments–being one of the most influential athletes in the United States.
According to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, Tebow ranks second on this year’s list of Forbes Magazine’s “America’s Most Influential Athletes”–finishing behind NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson. While this should come as no surprise considering the type of influence Tebow has on fans off the field, the ironic thing about the list is the Jets backup quarterback finished one spot ahead of Peyton Manning–who happens to be the new starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
Obviously, this should come as no surprise to see Tebow this high on the list considering he managed to to crack the top 100 in the world on Time’s list–but it’s still quite the accomplishment for a player that’s not even one of the best in the league at his position. Say what you want about Tebow’s play on the field, but it’s hard to ignore the amount of impact he has off the field when it comes to helping out the community and he’s certainly worthy of taking home the honors this year.
Of coures, don’t be surprised if making this list becomes a yearly habit for Tebow considering he’s not going to be changing his habits anytime soon.
