The 2012 NFL Draft Has Proven To Be Very Unpredictable

We all knew that Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III would be the first two picks, but we could not have expected what has transpired at picks three through seven. First Cleveland trades the 4th overall selection along with three fourth day picks for the 3rd overall pick, which was used to draft Trent Richardson.

Next the Minnesota Vikings proved that ESPN was wrong and they preferred Matt Kalil with the fourth overall pick. These two picks were fantastic, in my personal opinion, and both teams will get quality starters for the next decade. Then the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to get Justin Blackmon. This was the first poor draft pick since Blackmon is not an elite wide receiver and has been most frequently compared to the disappointing Michael Crabtree.

St.Louis’ Rams made another great move by trading with the Dallas Cowboys, allowing for Jerry Jones to get his guy, Morris Claiborne. Tampa Bay used the 7th overall pick to select Mark Barron. Barron is a good safety prospect but he is by no means an elite prospect and is a tier below in terms of talent compared to Eric Berry, the fifth overall pick in 2010.

My grades for the teams mentioned:

So far I would have to give an A to Indianapolis, Washington, Minnesota, St.Louis, and Dallas. I’m giving Cleveland an A- just because they had to give up some picks to get Trent Richardson. Tampa Bay earns a grade of a C- from me. Finally Jacksonville gets a solid D because I don’t feel Blackmon is a true number one wide receiver.
