Buffalo Bills Sign Quarterback Vince Young
Vince Young’s NFL career has certainly been an interesting one to say the least.
After leading The University of Texas Longhorns to their first national championship season in what is considered to be one of the greatest seasons in college football history, Young has had a very tumultuous career in the NFL. Now, the quarterback has found a new home with the Buffalo Bills.
Young was drafted by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft. After being named Rookie of the Year his first season in the league and receiving a bid to the Pro-Bowl, his career with the Titans seemed to fizzle out. He certainly had some bright spots, but the quarterback and then head-coach, Jeff Fisher, seemed to have some issues with one another.
Rumors began to surface that Young’s off-the-field issues and alleged mental instability had a negative impact on his game, and the once-promising career began to decline and he and the Titans soon parted way.
Given another chance, Young landed with the Philadelphia Eagles to back-up starter Michael Vick. Vince caught a break when Vick was sidelined for several games, but much like his career with the Titans, his time with the Eagles was a mixture of a few bright spots overshadowed by poor performances.
After being released by the Eagles, many wondered if the once-promising quarterback’s time in the NFL was drawing to a close.
Now, however, Vince Young has found a new home with the Buffalo Bills.
With Young’s signing, the Bills now have four quarterbacks on their roster, including their starter Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brad Smith (QB/WR) and Tyler Thigpen.
Only time will tell if Buffalo is a good fit for the two-time Pro Bowler, but at first glance, it doesn’t appear to be a bad place for the quarterback. Though Fitzpatrick is the starter for the Bills, it seems that Young would be the No. 2 quarterback.
You never know what can happen over the course of a season, but this is a step in the right direction for Young.
