Bill Cowher Would Come Out Of Retirement To Coach The Chicago Bears
Bill Cowher has long been rumored to pine for a return to theNFL coaching ranks. However, he has yet to make that jump but there is a team that he would consider returning for. Cowher would love to return to coaching if he could coach the Chicago Bears. There’s only one problem with that. Lovie Smith is still employed as the coach of the team.
With the Bears adding a new GM in the offseason, bringing in a new coach is not out of the question. GM’s like to have their own guy running the show so to speak. This would leave Smith on the outside looking in. Then again, if they are able to bring in Cowher, I think Bears fans everywhere would love that trade off.
It would be interesting to see, but Bill Cowher would fit right in. He loves a defense first team and the Bears are just that. The Bears might even be more potent on offense than his old Pittsburgh Steelers were, so he could make the Bears an instant title contender. In a city that hasn’t seen a Super Bowl win since the 80s, they would certainly welcome that change.
That being said, this change wouldn’t happen for at least a year if not more. Smith still is under contract and with the addition of new weapons, he will be given a chance to coach out his contract. It does give you something to think about though, doesn’t it?
