NFL Rumors: Chad Johnson has been released by the Miami Dolphins
Just 24 hours after his arrest for domestic violence, troubled Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson has been released by the Dolphins. This is per NFL.com and Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer.
Yesterday social media sites like Twitter were abuzz with the news that Johnson had been arrested for assaulting his new wife of 39ish days Evelyn Lozado over her discovery of a receipt for of all things a package of condoms. I know when I buy something on my credit card and they ask if I want my receipt, I always say no, so I don’t have to carry the extra piece of paper in my wallet. Good advice Chad. Just something to think about.
Things looked to be turning around for Johnson after what could only be described as a failure of a season last year with the New England Patriots. He’d had a good camp, and if you believed his updates on Facebook and Twitter he was ready to roll for a big year.
Let me just say that for all the goofy stuff Johnson did, I can’t recall a time when he’s ever been a real problem player either on or off the field. I’ve always liked him as a player, even when he went against my Pittsburgh Steelers while he was a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. The Dolphins must have really thought a lot of this situation to go forward with releasing him so quickly. I will be curious to see how this plays out in the coming days, and I am especially anxious to hear what Johnson has to say about it and what the NFL says.
What does this mean for Johnson’s career? It can’t be good. He’s 34 and coming off a bad year, so it’s going to take a team who’s willing to take a long shot on him at this point. Seems to me that this situation isn’t as bad as the media is making it seem, but when it comes to professional athletes, they are always under the microscope and even if what they do isn’t terrible, the repercussions can be.
