NFL Rumors: Seattle Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson On Roster Bubble?
It’s one thing to have a two-way battle at quarterback, but the Seattle Seahawks have one of the most interesting situations in the NFL as they have three players capable of starting Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. After Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson handled the snaps during the Seahawks first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans this past weekend, it appears one quarterback could be the odd-man out of the battle–Tarvaris Jackson.
Speculation is beginning to build up that Jackson is on the roster bubble heading into Week 2 of the preseason and given the team’s situation at quarterback–it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Considering Flynn was signed to a three-year, $26 million deal during the offseason and the potential surrounding rookie Russell Wilson, it wouldn’t make sense for the team to keep Jackson around–especially with the $4 million he’s scheduled to make during the 2012 season.
This move would seem even more likely to happen if Wilson ends up winning the backup job behind Flynn as they most likely wouldn’t want to spend that much money on a player listed as the third-string quarterback. Jackson may have the advantage over Flynn or Wilson from an experience perspective, but he’s also received plenty of opportunities to prove himself as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
If Jackson was unable to land a consistent startin job over the first six years of his career in the NFL, why should the Seattle expect anything big from him in 2012? At this rate, it wouldn’t be a surprise if these were the final few weeks of Jackson’s tenure with the Seahawks considering all of the factors that go into whether or not it would be worth keeping him around.
