Tarvaris Jackson was drafted in the second round to be a future franchise quarterback. Too bad it hasn’t worked out that way. His second team, the Seattle Seahawks, are shipping him out to the Buffalo Bills.
The writing was on the wall for Jackson. He had clearly fallen out of the QB race in Seattle and there were plenty of teams that showed interest in bringing him in as a backup. The Bills are intriguing because this move might mean that they are not confident in Vince Young. This would give him some extra competition for that backup quarterback spot.
Jackson has been a guy who has never been able to turn his athleticism into solid quarterbacking ability. Playing quarterback is not easy to do. There are a lot of guys who have failed at it, and Jackson is no exception to that rule. He has never been able to make the mental decisions that would put him over the top.
A change of scenery for the second time might actually do him some good. He will not be expected to play so the pressure might go away until he has to enter a game. Then again, if the Bills season ever ends up depending on how well Jackson is playing, their season could be in even more trouble than we had ever thought it could be.
Watch out for a possible move involving Young sooner rather than later. Otherwise, this move doesn’t make a ton of sense for Buffalo.
