If there is one thing that is taken very seriously in the South is football, “King Football” as it is known in SEC country is a very loud and passionate outlet deep in the heart of Dixie on Saturdays.
The other thing that is very iron-clad is family, as the mother of Tennessee Volunteers head coach, Derek Dooley, Barbara, would prove that making her own special cameo appearance at an Athens-area radio station Thursday morning
The son of former Georgia Bulldogs head coach, Vince Dooley, Derek was the subject of being on the proverbial hot seat by a couple of Knoxville-area writers despite being 3-1 overall—although losing to rival Florida 33-23 might be an issue—how can any coach in America be “on the hot seat” by being 3-1?
Dooley would drive to the station and interrupt the live segment to defend her son on radio, Dooley would stated that her son will be the Vol’s coach for the “next 25 years” before leaving.
Mothers of football fans and coaches should be proud to have a mother like Barbara Dooley, any woman who would drive from the outskirts of Athens and into a live radio station broadcast to take up for your coach is a keeper.
The (3-1) Tennessee Vols play the (3-2) Georgia Bulldogs Saturday at 7pm in Athens.
