Former Maryland QB Danny O’Brien Visiting Ole Miss
Randy Edsall is accomplished at running off players from Maryland. Ole Miss has proven it is willing to accept anyone that performs at a level above a junior varsity level.
And because of those two truths, former Terrapins quarterback Danny O’Brien and left tackle Max Garcia are visiting Oxford. According to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports:
The two former starters are expected to be in Oxford from Tuesday to Thursday.
Houston Nutt famously garnered the transfer of Oregon signal-caller Jeremiah Masoli while employed at Ole Miss and perhaps new head coach Hugh Freeze feels some of the same pressure.
That’s fine as a competitor but Freeze also inked junior college standout quarterback Bo Wallace in January. O’Brien and Wallace, who threw for over 4,600 yards and 53 touchdowns at a Mississippi JUCO last season, could provide an intriguing battle should the former make it to Oxford.
At Maryland, O’Brien earned the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2010 by tossing 22 touchdowns against just 8 interceptions. He struggled with Ralph Friedgen’s departure, saw his output decrease in 2011, suffered an arm injury and ultimately decided to leave College Park.
The quarterback could pick worse places to end up than nearest the Grove. But if he passed, could he ever live with himself for not playing in the SEC?
A collegiate athlete only gets so many chances at recruiting and God’s conference isn’t known for second chances.
That is, unless you’re a retread NFL head coach.
