Manchester United in Line for Next Croatian Star
Manchester United is the reported favorite to sign Mateo Kovacic in the near future, but face stiff competition from Juventus and Arsenal.
Kovacic, currently with Dianmo Zagreb, has been compared to current Tottenham star Luka Modric. The 17-year old attacking midfielder has scored four goals in his brief tenure at Zagreb and became the youngest player to ever captain the side.
Kovacic has also been a fixture for the Croatian youth national teams. He was capped 15 times for the U-17′s and has already capped twice for the U-21 side this year. He is a candidate to make the squad for Euro 2012 should Croatia win its qualifying playoff with Turkey
Juventus has shown the most interest, but it is believe that Kovacic would prefer to land in the Premier League. Kovacic likes the heavy investment and patience in youth that Man U and Arsenal have shown in recent years.
United would be unlikely to make a move during the winter transfer season, preferring to wait until summer to acquire the youngster.
Kovacic and Dinamo Zagreb will be in action against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
