It has been announced that Fox won the rights from FIFA to broadcast both the 2018 and 2022 World Cup’s, beating out favored ESPN and NBC. Telemundo won the Spanish broadcast rights.

While the news is certainly shocking, ESPN did a fine job with the 2010 version in South Africa and should again  in Brazil 2014, Fox has its own background of pretty good soccer coverage. They lead the coverage of US networks with Fox Soccer Channel, FoxSoccerPlus and FoxSoccer.tv to support their mainstream programming. So lets not all fly off the handle with thoughts of Joe Buck calling the final.

I am positive Fox will hire Ian Darke, Martin Tyler, Andy Gray, or other top announcers to call the action from Russia and Qatar. They will not stick with their local announcers, at least not for the big games. That being said, twitter, my friends, and I got creative with what could be some humorous and very real possibilities of what Fox’s coverage could include.

1. Cuppy, a robotic soccer ball explaining a throw-in.
2. Michael Strahan telling us that there is a difference between the offsides in soccer and American football.
3. A glowing offside line, perhaps one for the goal line too?
4. Frank Calliendo explaining the rules as Charles Barkley.
5. Pam Oliver- “I spoke to England’s head coach and HE said the guy in front of the net with gloves is allowed to use his hands.” Thanks @twolinepass.
6. Joe Buck calling Algeria-Italy.
7. Joe Buck hosting in the studio with guys he can barely understand.
8. Tim McCarver explaining that the team with the most goals wins.
9. Kurt Menefee getting to talk more about soccer.
10. Bill O’Reilly talking……soccer?
