Suarez takes on Evra and Manchester United
After serving an eight game ban for making racist comments, Liverpool’s 25-year-old striker Luis Suarez will face the player and team he made those comments toward on Saturday.
Suarez was suspended for comments he made towards Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in their league match from October.
It is believed that Suarez, the Uruguayan native, made these comments in Spanish, and that it does not have the same connotation as it does in English.
He still believes he never said anything wrong, and told reporters earlier this week that he would not apologize to Evra. He has also come out and said that he has moved on from the incident, and that any booing fans at Old Trafford would just fuel him to play better.
Suarez came off the bench on Monday to play in his first game back since the suspension. He had a few chances on goal, and also received a yellow card for kicking a Tottenham player in the stomach while trying for a volley. It left a lot of people questioning why he did not receive a red card for the incident, and just adds to his tally of dirty plays. The match Monday ended in a 0-0 draw.
The FA stated earlier that they will not cancel the pre-match handshakes on Saturday, meaning both players will have all eyes on them during that moment when they are basically forced to be civil towards each other. They are hoping this will help ease tensions prior to the start of the game, but if it doesn’t go according to plan, it seems this will only spark things even more.
The Northwest Derby has already been quite the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool throughout the years, and this will only add fuel to the fire.
It will be interesting to see how both teams react, and if they can play this match without letting all the animosity towards each other get the best of them.
