Fenway Sports Group Moves to Extend High-End Seating at Historic Anfield
Anfield - by Zweifüssler

Liverpool FC has today applied for planning permission to erect a marquee outside Anfield to cater for 500 corporate guests. The proposed structure will sit on derelict land, owned by the club, on the Anfield Road end of the stadium.

Liverpool’s search for a solution to their current stadium issues has been well documented and the club are yet to decide on whether to redevelop Anfield or move to a new stadium in Stanley Park. The present lack of corporate hospitality facilities at Anfield is thought to be among the main concerns and this extension will seek to address that issue.

However, the move does not appear to give any indication as to what direction the board are taking when it comes to the stadium upgrade as the marquee is only set to be in place for a period of two years. Despite this, reports suggest that John W Henry may be close to making an announcement on this matter in the near future.

Since purchasing the club from Tom Hicks and George Gillett, Fenway Sports Group have been keen to increase revenue streams for the club by introducing a range of new sponsors and a record-breaking kit deal. This announcement clearly shows that they are keen to continue this trend and increase income further still.

A statement from the club reads:

“Through the increasing spectator demand for quality hospitality accommodation at Anfield Stadium, Liverpool Football Club have identified that the existing facilities are under pressure and have been investigating the options to increase the capacity of the hospitality offer.

To meet this additional demand and assist the club in remaining competitive with other Premier League clubs, the Club have procured the recent refurbishment of existing facilities and now also propose the introduction of additional accommodation in the form of a temporary marquee structure on land owned by the club at 61-71 Anfield Road.”
