Poll: Hope Solo’s Tweets to Brandi Chastain Are…
Current US Women’s National Team player Hope Solo (that sounds like a stage name, doesn’t it?) has caused quite a stir with her tweets directed at former player and current commentator Brandi Chastain. “Its important 2 our fans,” Hope tweeted, “2 enjoy the spirit of the olympics. Its not possible when sum 1 on air is saying that a player is the worst defender!” Whew. She also added, “I feel bad 4 our fans that [sic] have 2 push mute, especially bc @arlowhite is fanastic.@brandichastain should be helping 2 grow the sport.”
Chastain recently commented on Hope Solo’s positive drug test, saying, “It’s news that they don’t need,” adding, “As athletes, we have to be more careful.”
In case you forgot or just didn’t know, Chastain netted the game-winning penalty in the shootout against China in the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup final. She has also won two Women’s World Cup championships, two Olympic gold medals, and an Olympic silver medal. So maybe she knows what she’s talking about. But hey, it’s important 2 the fans that she help them enjoy the spirit of the Olympics, or something. Solo, it must be pointed out, can include a stint on Dancing with the Stars in her list of credentials. I’m not sure what that fact has to do with her soccer playing/tweeting abilities, but there you have it.
So what do you think? Are these tweets just inane rambling, or does Solo have a legitimate complaint to file? Is this the best timing for picking a fight with a commentator, or the right venue? Vote in our poll, why don’t ya.
