Soccer Rumors: Michael Laudrup Looks to Bolster Swansea Midfield as Joe Allen Move Appears Imminent
Rumors are circulating, as they tend to do around this time of year, that Swansea manager Michael Laudrup is eyeing a bid for Hannover’s 26-year-old Mohammed Abdellaoue, and is also set to increase his £4 million offer for Bolton midfielder Mark Davies. Davies, a Wolverhampton native, might relish the chance to get back into the Prem with the Swans after having his side relegated on the final day of last season in a 2-2 draw with Stoke City.
Meanwhile, all reports suggest that Joe Allen will be wearing red by the end of the day, which may have something to do with Laudrup’s desire to bolster the midfield with Davies. Abdellaoue, a Norwegian footballer of Moroccan descent, would complement the move by adding some striking capability up front; Abdellaoue scored 11 goals for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga last season. If Laudrup gets the right price for Allen, he could most likely bring the aforementioned pair to Liberty with extra cash to spend, making this deal quite the coups for the Swans.
The big question for Laudrup right now, however, is whether or not he’ll be able to keep Scott Sinclair in a Swans jersey for the upcoming season (which starts in less than two weeks, yikes). Manchester City and Liverpool have reportedly made bids for the Bath-born midfielder and striker. Sinclair netted eight goals last season, one of which was Swansea’s first in the Premier League, in a 3-0 win against West Brom.
At least we can take comfort in the fact that as the transfer window closes all of these questions, one way or another, will be answered.
